Mahesh Manjrekar’s Shocking Comment On Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava – Is This The Truth?

Vicky Kaushal’s historical action drama Chhaava, directed by Laxman Utekar, has become a massive box office success and a source of regional pride. Based on the life of the valiant Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the film has struck a deep chord with audiences, especially in Maharashtra, grossing over ₹800 crore worldwide.

A Tribute to a Warrior King

Chhaava tells the story of Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and his fearless resistance against the Mughal empire. Vicky Kaushal delivers a powerful performance in the titular role, while Rashmika Mandanna portrays Yesubai Bhonsale, his devoted wife. The ensemble cast also features Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta, further elevating the film’s emotional and historical weight.

Mahesh Manjrekar’s Candid Take

Veteran actor and filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar recently shared his perspective on the film’s unprecedented success. Speaking with Mirchi Marathi, he praised Kaushal’s acting abilities but stressed that the film’s triumph owed more to the legacy of Sambhaji Maharaj than star power. “Vicky Kaushal is a very fine actor. But people came to see Sambhaji Maharaj, not just Vicky,” he said.

Manjrekar added that Kaushal’s previous five films did not receive the same kind of response, reinforcing the idea that the subject matter deeply resonated with the audience — particularly in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra: The Driving Force Behind the Success

According to Manjrekar, Maharashtra played a pivotal role in the film’s box office journey. “My Maharashtra has saved the Hindi film industry,” he declared. “Eighty percent of the film’s success is due to Maharashtra, especially Pune and nearby regions.”

A Milestone for Historical Dramas

Directed by Laxman Utekar, known for Mimi and Luka Chuppi, and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Chhaava has proven that well-crafted historical stories can still captivate audiences and dominate the box office.  The film’s overwhelming success is not just a win for its makers, but a celebration of Maharashtra’s rich legacy and enduring pride.
