The Met Gala 2025 returns in style on Monday, May 5, with another night to remember of fashion, culture, and celebrity glamour. The annual event is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and serves as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute as well as the opening of its spring exhibition each year.
This Year’s Theme: Superfine Tailoring Black Style
The 2025 theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” is a strong salute to the power of Black fashion over centuries. It delves into the artistry, cultural relevance, and political aspects of how Black men dressed between the 18th century and the present day. The exhibition will feature a range of clothing, paintings, and photographs and is open to the public from May 10 to October 26, 2025.

The Secret World Inside the Gala
While millions ogle the red carpet glamour, what goes on behind the scenes of the Met Gala is still largely unknown. Guests ascend the famous MET stairs then disappear into an exclusive realm no phones, no social media, no press. As Vogue so aptly quotes, “It’s a secret.” Yet in typical celebrity style, some of the behind-the-scenes experiences still escape most famously, those now-famous bathroom selfies.

A Night of Art, Fashion, and Performance
Upon entering, the night starts off with a cocktail hour, when guests mingle and browse the fashion exhibit of the year. Guests are then served a formal seated dinner, replete with elegantly planned seating arrangements. The evening is wrapped up with a live show a past year has seen pop diva Ariana Grande give an unforgettable performance.

Star-Studded Co-Chairs and Honorees
Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, once again serves as the gala’s prime organizer and co-chair. She will be accompanied this year by actor Colman Domingo, F1 winner Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky, and music legend Pharrell Williams. NBA great LeBron James has been appointed an honorary chair, emphasizing the gala’s commitment to honoring Black excellence in all fields.
