Box Office Update: Suriya’s Retro Ends Long Weekend with ₹43 Crore

Suriya’s latest Tamil action drama Retro is off to a promising start at the box office. The film, which released on May 1, wrapped up its four-day extended weekend with a solid collection of ₹43.48 crore in India. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the movie’s worldwide gross has now touched ₹60 crore, including ₹18.65 crore from overseas markets.

Retro had a bumper opening day, collecting ₹19.25 crore on Thursday. Though Friday saw a sharp dip of nearly 59.74%, the film bounced back with steady collections on Saturday and Sunday. On Day 4 (Sunday), the film brought in ₹8.48 crore ₹7.81 crore from Tamil and ₹6.70 lakh from its Telugu version.

Language-Wise Occupancy and Performance

Retro, which was released in both Tamil and Telugu, witnessed good occupancy rates over the weekend. On Sunday, the film recorded a 44.02% occupancy in Tamil-speaking regions. However, in Telugu-speaking areas, the movie saw a lower occupancy of 17.34%. Despite this, it managed to maintain respectable figures, especially considering its clash with Nani’s HIT 3, which earned nearly ₹10 crore on Sunday.

Star Cast and Production

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Retro marks his first collaboration with Suriya. The movie features Suriya in the role of a gangster, alongside Pooja Hegde as the female lead. It also stars Jayaram, Joju George, Karunakaran, Nassar, and Prakash Raj in key roles, with a special cameo appearance by actress Shriya Saran.
