The Maharaja Has Arrived! Diljit Dosanjh’s Bhupinder Singh-Inspired Look is Pure Regal Elegance

After setting stages ablaze at Coachella and owning Paris Fashion Week, Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh made a grand debut at the 2025 Met Gala. Sharing the spotlight with Shah Rukh Khan and Kiara Advani, Diljit brought royalty and culture to fashion’s biggest night with a look that celebrated his roots and this year’s theme: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

A Maharaja Moment on the Blue Carpet

Designed by Prabal Gurung, Diljit’s ensemble was a breathtaking tribute to Punjabi heritage and regal elegance. Dressed in a white turban and a matching ensemble, the singer-actor looked every bit the modern-day Maharaja. His long flowing cape, inscribed with Punjabi alphabets, stood out as a cultural statement. Completing his look with ornate jewellery and a ceremonial sword, Diljit blended traditional elements with high fashion seamlessly.

Honouring Heritage and Menswear

This year’s Met Gala theme took inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion, exploring Black dandyism and the evolution of Black style. The dress code, “Tailored for You,” marked a significant shift as the first Met Gala in over two decades to focus exclusively on menswear. Gala committee member Usher described it as “timely” and a celebration of cultural richness.

Co-chaired by Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, and Anna Wintour—with LeBron James as honorary co-chair—the night was a fusion of fashion, culture, and personal expression.

Diljit Dosanjh made a strong statement with his Met Gala 2025 entrance, proudly flaunting his Punjabi roots on the international platform. Wearing an ivory sherwani-inspired suit by Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung, the Born to Shine singer honored Patiala’s Maharaja Bhupinder Singh. His royal outfit was topped off with a matching cape with intricate golden embroidery of Punjab’s map and Punjabi alphabets, making his attire not only stylish but deeply connected to cultural pride.
