Sabrina Carpenter took a risk on style at the 2025 Met Gala, interpreting the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” in a risk-taking, Pharrell Williams-conceived look that generated huge heat on the red carpet. The actress-singer came out in a bespoke Chanel ensemble that gave very little to the imagination a fitted jacket alone, in a nod to the phrase which fast became Internet shorthand: “No Pants For You.
Conceived by Pharrell, currently the men’s creative director at Louis Vuitton, the style was about streamlined confidence and cool minimalism. Sabrina’s crisp, structured blazer had detailed pearl work, belted at the waist to reveal her figure. Underneath, she sported only tights and towering heels, a high-fashion look that teetered between traditional tailoring and Gen Z defiance.

On the red carpet, Sabrina lightly joked about her dress, telling reporters, “Pharrell said to me, ‘No pants for you,’ and I said, ‘Okay!'” Her playful, fearless spirit was in line with the tone of the evening, and social media was abuzz with comments on her daring decision. Some complimented the act of taking a risk and the homage to ’80s power dressing, while others argued the walkability of the ensemble. But there’s no question she pulled it off with poise and panache.

Pharrell’s vision combined with Sabrina’s bravado made her one of the night’s stand-out stars. Her sleek blonde locks styled in a gentle wave and minimalist makeup, she allowed the outfit to do the talking. The look captured the night’s theme by toying with classic silhouettes and flipping them on their head literally, by doing away with the pants.
Again, Sabrina Carpenter showed she isn’t afraid to push boundaries and at this year’s Met Gala, it absolutely paid off.
