In a society where celebrities are always under the microscope, Bipasha Basu has been recently age-shamed on social media. An instant hit Instagram page posted a side-by-side montage of the actress one from the beginning of her career and an updated photo along with the lyrics to “Night Changes.” The post playfully teased her natural aging process, which was met with backlash for its insensitivity.
Although there were numerous users that criticized the post, Shweta Vijay Nair, a former Miss India and beauty influencer, came forth with a strong rebuttal. Shweta, in an emotional video, pointed out how a woman’s body, identity, and priorities change particularly after giving birth. She lashed out at society’s double standard in which women are supposed to look gorgeous while they juggle the responsibilities of family, work, and themselves.

Bipasha, who welcomed her daughter Devi in November 2022, took note of the video and posted in the comments about her own take. “Hope the human race does not stay so shallow,” she posted. “Memes and trolls do not make me but these are deeply distressing mirrors of society.” She also pointed out the psychological cost of such trolling for those who are more vulnerable, and urged other women to stand up for one another.
