The long-awaited trailer of Detective Sherdil, featuring Diljit Dosanjh, was released on Tuesday and has already caught the attention of fans and film enthusiasts. Trading the roles that one comes to expect him in, Diljit portrays an offbeat and verbally clever detective in this black comedy mystery helmed by first-timer Ravi Chhabriya.
A Budapest Murder Mystery
Against the picturesque landscape of Budapest, the movie unravels the killing of billionaire tycoon Pankaj Bhatti, acted by veteran actor Boman Irani. First seen as a hate crime, the investigation soon takes a path of a dirty corporate world of greed, secret family affairs, and lies. Diljit acts as Detective Sherdil, a quirky but brilliant detective who tackles the twisted case with the aid of Natasha, acted by Diana Penty a smart and calm officer.
By combining clever suspense, humour, and surprising plot turns, Detective Sherdil hopes to provide a new twist on the age-old whodunit template. The trailer suggests Diljit’s most unconventional performance to date, displaying his versatility as he plays the suave, unpredictable detective. His chemistry with Diana Penty lends suspense to the partnership as the duo work their way through the suspect maze and motives.
Power-Packed Cast and Release Details
Directed by Sagar Bajaj, Ravi Chhabriya, and Ali Abbas Zafar, the film is Zafar’s second directorial collaboration with Diljit following their critically acclaimed film Jogi. The supporting cast includes Chunky Panday, Ratna Pathak Shah, Sumeet Vyas, and Banita Sandhu in key roles, with expected robust performances from all of them.
Detective Sherdil will debut only on Zee5 on June 20, and it will treat viewers to a sartorial mix of suspense, dark humor, and brainy narration.
