Popular stand-up comedian and reality show winner Munawar Faruqui is all set to make his acting debut with the upcoming OTT series First Copy. Known for winning Bigg Boss 17 and Lock Upp 1, Munawar now steps into the world of fiction with this gritty, nostalgic crime drama. The trailer, which dropped online on Monday, has already piqued audience interest with its intriguing storyline and retro setting.
Munawar as a 90s Piracy Kingpin
Set in the vibrant 1990s, First Copy follows Munawar’s character, Arif, who rises to infamy as a mastermind of film piracy. As his illegal operations expand, Arif finds himself entangled in a dangerous game with law enforcement and the Bollywood industry. Adding emotional depth is a romantic subplot between Arif and Mona, played by Ashi Singh. The trailer hints at a gripping mix of drama, romance, and action, promising an engaging watch.
Veteran Stars Add Weight to the Cast
The series features a stellar supporting cast including veteran actor Gulshan Grover, Krystle D’Souza, Ashi Singh, and Saqib Ayub. Gulshan Grover plays Mahesh Kumar, a powerful and calculating figure. Speaking about his role, he said, “Playing Mahesh Kumar was like revisiting an era I’ve personally witnessed evolving. He’s a man who thrives on influence and intimidation.”
Krystle D’Souza portrays Mona, a complex woman with many layers. “She wears different masks and refuses to fade away despite what society tells her. It was refreshing to play a woman with such quiet strength,” Krystle shared.
