The upcoming film Predator: Badlands is set to take the iconic franchise in an exciting new direction with a fresh take on the Predator mythos — this time, with an unlikely partnership at its core.
At the heart of the story is Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), a young Yautja warrior considered a runt among his kind. Still formidable by human standards, Dek is desperate to earn his clan’s respect and must prove himself by surviving a brutal hunt on one of the universe’s deadliest planets. But Dek won’t be facing the dangers alone.
Joining him is Thia (Elle Fanning), a synthetic humanoid created by the notorious Weyland-Yutani Corporation a nod to the Alien franchise. This makes Predator: Badlands an official crossover event, but unlike traditional Alien vs. Predator showdowns, this film teams up the Yautja and synthetic instead of pitting them against one another. Thia’s upbeat demeanor contrasts hilariously with Dek’s moody quest for validation, especially when she’s reduced to just a torso which Dek carries around like a backpack.
The trailer showcases the film’s offbeat dynamic and impressive world-building, including snippets of Dek speaking the Yautja language with subtitles, glimpses of towering mechs, and tense battles against fearsome creatures. All of this is brought to life by director Dan Trachtenberg, who previously helmed 2022’s critically acclaimed Prey and the upcoming animated anthology Predator: Killer of Killers (2025).
With Trachtenberg steering the project, Predator: Badlands promises a clever blend of sci-fi action, humor, and emotional stakes. For fans of both the Predator and Alien franchises, this crossover might just be the most exciting addition yet. Expect the unexpected — and maybe a few laughs along the way.
