Samajwadi Party MP and veteran actor Jaya Bachchan was caught on camera snapping at a man who tried to take a selfie with her outside the Constitution Club in Delhi. The video, now widely circulated on social media, shows Ms Bachchan talking to someone at the gate when the man came too close in an attempt to click a photo.
Visibly annoyed, she shoved him slightly and asked, “What is this?” The man quickly apologized. Also seen in the video were fellow MPs Misa Bharti and Priyanka Chaturvedi, with Ms Bharti also appearing to rebuke the man before entering the venue.
Known for Guarding Her Privacy
Jaya Bachchan has often made headlines for her strong stance against invasions of privacy. She has been seen in multiple instances calling out fans and paparazzi for trying to take pictures without consent. In April this year, she scolded an elderly fan who tapped her on the shoulder and attempted to take a photo during a prayer meet for Manoj Kumar.
Her Views on Public Intrusion
In a 2022 episode of the podcast What The Hell Navya, hosted by her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda, Bachchan opened up about her behavior. She expressed deep frustration toward people who intrude on her personal space:
“I despise the people who interfere in your personal life and fill their stomachs by selling those products… I am disgusted with such people.”
She further clarified that online trolling doesn’t bother her. “If people earn a living by uploading my angry moments, I give a damn,” she said. “You can criticise my work, but don’t judge my character or personal boundaries.”
At 77, Jaya Bachchan remains unapologetically firm about her right to personal space, despite frequent social media scrutiny.
