Game of Thrones alumnae Sophie Turner and Kit Harington, the on-screen siblings who famously played Sansa Stark and Jon Snow, are back together for the upcoming gothic horror movie The Dreadful, directed by Natasha Kermani. The actors were keen to be reunited on screen, but were dealt an awkward hand—several intimate and romantic scenes between their characters that left the experience thoroughly uncomfortable for both.
Sophie revealed the awkwardness during an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. She shared that when she first sent Kit the script, she hadn’t fully grasped the nature of their roles. It wasn’t until Kit pointed out the numerous kissing and sex scenes that the reality hit her. “I’m like, ‘Oh, shoot, that’s my brother,’” Sophie joked, reflecting on their long-standing sibling-like relationship.
Although they were initially uncomfortable with the project, both were willing to continue with the project due to the quality of the script. However, Sophie had called filming their first kissing scene “one of the worst moments” of her career. Sophie admitted that she and Kit were both “retching” while filming because they were so uncomfortable. When Seth Meyers asked if the experience was more unpleasant than coping with cockroaches, Sophie honestly responded, “I had to be.”. I have to be truthful. It was terrible.”

Game of Thrones, which was an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels, ran for eight seasons between 2011 and 2019 and made Sophie and Kit household names. Here, their reunion in The Dreadful gives fans a new but very unsettling collaboration as it is shown that even distant co-stars can have difficulties playing unfamiliar roles.
