Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor’s new romantic drama, Param Sundari, is seeing a good run at the box office. The movie, which hit screens this Friday, has kept growing steadily over its opening weekend, showing positive word-of-mouth and audience appeal.
Opening Weekend Collections
As per the initial estimates by Sacnilk, Param Sundari collected ₹7.25 crore on Friday and then ₹9.25 crore on Saturday—a growth of 27.59%. The collections continued to gather momentum on Sunday, where the estimates stand at ₹10.25 crore. This brings the weekend collection of the film to ₹26.75 crore, reaching near the ₹27 crore mark.
Produced on a budget of reportedly ₹50 crore, the film will easily recover its cost if it maintains equal level of momentum during the weekdays.
Occupancy and Regional Trends
On Sunday, the movie grossed an overall Hindi occupancy of 17.37%. Morning shows were decent with 10.56% occupancy, but the movie improved in the afternoon (24.17%). Delhi–NCR, which had the maximum number of screenings (1,228), registered only 18% occupancy, while cities such as Chennai, Bengaluru, and Jaipur registered higher turnouts, perhaps because of the attraction of Janhvi Kapoor in South Indian markets and the cultural setting of the movie.
Plot and Performances
Param Sundari revolves around Param (Sidharth Malhotra), a rich Delhi boy who indulges in startup activities with his father’s funds. His new fascination brings him to Soulmates, an AI-based matchmaking app, which introduces him to Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor), the owner of a homestay in Kerala with strong values and traditions.
Their contrasting worlds collide in humorous and heartwarming ways, enriched by vibrant cultural settings, especially the inclusion of Kalari Payattu—Sundari’s uncle’s martial art form.
Critical Reception
The movie is largely well-received, with News18 Showsha awarding it 3.5 stars. The review speaks of its emotional simplicity, comparing the experience to “comfort food cinema.” The critic wrote, “It may not aspire to gourmet innovation, but it fills the heart with the uncomplicated sweetness of first love.”
Param Sundari is not out to revolutionize the genre, but its mix of charm, culture, and nostalgia rang a bell among viewers.
