The TV world has lost talented actress Priya Marathe, who died at 38 after a long fight against cancer. The actress, who played Varsha in Pavitra Rishta, was found dead at her residence in Mira Road, Mumbai, on Sunday, August 31.
Prarthana Behere Overcome With Grief
The most poignant moment at Priya’s funeral was when her Pavitra Rishta co-star Prarthana Behere wept. Behere, who played Vaishali on the show, had an especially strong relationship with Priya, and the loss clearly broke her. She was seen folding her hands and weeping uncontrollably during the last rites.
A few more dignitaries from the Hindi and Marathi television world had arrived for the last rites, namely Om Prakash Shinde, Abhijeet Khandekar, Astad Kale, and Shalmali Toyle, all of whom were visibly shaken as they offered their final respects.
A Respected Name in Television
Priya Marathe had a successful professional career in both Hindi and Marathi television. Apart from Pavitra Rishta, she was also popular in other shows such as Kasamh Se, Bade Acche Lagte Hain, Tu Tithe Me, Bhaage Re Mann, Jayastute, and Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap.
Her skill in acting out multidimensional characters won her respect from peers as well as spectators. Her final year had been a personal battle, as she battled cancer out of the limelight.
Survived by Her Husband, Shantanu Moghe
Priya leaves behind her husband, actor Shantanu Moghe, whose breakout role was that of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the historical show Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji. The couple had just begun their marital life, and her death is even more tragic.
Usha Nadkarni Pays Tribute
Senior actress Usha Nadkarni, who also played a role in Pavitra Rishta, felt sad and remembered both Priya and deceased Sushant Singh Rajput, noting that it hurts to lose such promising talents at too early an age. Interviewed by TellyChakkar, she painted a picture of Priya as a reserved, committed professional.
“This wasn’t the age to leave us,” Usha stated. “She just got married… she should have been having children.”
A Life Gone Too Soon
Priya Marathe’s death has left a void in the television world. Known for her grace and commitment, she will be remembered fondly by fans and peers for the legacy she leaves behind.
