Ekta Kapoor has announced that the popular Naagin franchise is now moving from television to the big screen. The announcement was made on the occasion of Nag Panchami and Shravan Somvar, marking a new phase for the supernatural franchise. However, Ekta has not revealed details about the film’s story, cast or release date yet.
Ekta Kapoor shared a video on Instagram featuring several actresses who have played the iconic Naagin character over the years. The video looked back at the franchise’s journey on television before revealing that the popular series is now being planned as a film. “Something exciting is coming! 🐍🔥 #WaitForIt Happy Nag Panchami!” Ekta wrote with the post.
The teaser also carried the message, “For 11 years, Naagin has ruled the small screen. Now Balaji Telefims Ltd is ready to take the iconic franchise beyond TV.”
The Naagin television series began in 2015 with Mouni Roy playing the lead role alongside Arjun Bijlani. The show quickly became one of the most popular supernatural dramas on Indian television. It combined fantasy, mythology, romance and family drama, helping the franchise build a large audience.
Mouni Roy returned for the second season, while Surbhi Jyoti played the central character in the third season. Nia Sharma headlined the fourth season, which ended early during the Covid 19 pandemic. Surbhi Chandna then led the fifth season, followed by Tejasswi Prakash in season six after her Bigg Boss 15 win.
The seventh season premiered in 2025 and featured Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, Eisha Singh, Namik Paul and Kanika Mann among others. Season seven concluded on June 14, 2026. The franchise will now continue its journey in a different format.
The biggest question is who will play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Ekta Kapoor has not announced the actress who will become the new Naagin. Fans are already wondering whether the makers will cast a Bollywood star or choose a popular television actress.
