The fans of Bollywood’s power duo, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, were taken by surprise last year when news of their alleged split started doing the rounds in the media. Gossip was fueled further after the couple was spotted separately at public functions and a few family gatherings. But recent disclosures by ad filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar have brought much-needed relief to the situation.
Aishwarya’s Visits to Her Mother Misinterpreted
Prahlad Kakkar, who lives in the same apartment complex as Aishwarya’s mother, brushed aside the divorce reports as “rubbish”. In an interview with journalist Vickey Lalwani, he divulged that Aishwarya was visiting her mother on a regular basis solely due to her mother’s health problems, and not because of any marital trouble.
“She is visiting her mother because her mother is not well. Aishwarya drops off her daughter to school, goes to visit her mother during the day, then comes back to pick up her daughter and takes her home,” Kakkar stated. He pointed out that such visits were a part of the daily routine in her life and had nothing to do with separation. He also added that Abhishek accompanied her occasionally on such visits.
The Actual Cause of the Rumours
The rumour mill began to turn when the couple made individual appearances at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s pre-wedding celebrations. Speculation increased when Aishwarya shared birthday pictures of Aaradhya which did not include any member of the Bachchan family, including Abhishek. Her individual appearance at Cannes 2024 without any family member support further fueled the rumour.
Even some reports indicated that Aishwarya’s reported friction with Jaya Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan were among the contributing factors. But Kakkar did not believe these reports, affirming, “She is the bahu of the house and still runs the house.”
Why the Bachchans Do Not Speak
Kakkar also clarified why Aishwarya and Abhishek did not speak about the rumors in public. “Why should they? Let people keep barking,” he said, praising Aishwarya for keeping her dignity even under media scrutiny.
Even Amitabh Bachchan indirectly alluded to the rumor in an ambiguous post on social media, referring to such rumors as “unverified untruths” and emphasizing the harm caused by “question-mark journalism.”
