Project Hail Mary Sees Big Jump At Indian Box Office

Project Hail Mary shows strong growth in India as demand rises, IMAX shows increase, and the film earns around Rs 30 Cr at the box office.

Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, has shown a strong improvement at the Indian box office despite a slow start with limited IMAX screenings. The film is expected to collect around Rs 30 Cr gross in India. In its opening week, the film faced issues due to a limited number of IMAX shows across the country. Only a small number of screens were available, which restricted its reach to audiences who prefer watching big scale films in premium formats. However, things started to change soon after its release.

Many viewers took to social media and other platforms to express their interest in watching the film in IMAX. This consistent demand from audiences played an important role in increasing the film’s visibility. Sony Pictures India responded to this interest and worked on increasing the number of IMAX shows across different cities.

By the second week, the impact of these changes became visible. The film saw a clear rise in the number of IMAX screenings and audience turnout. It is now running in packed theatres in many places. In Week 2, Project Hail Mary is leading in the IMAX category with 108 shows.

In comparison, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has 66 IMAX shows, while Dhurandhar 2 is running with 21 shows. This means Project Hail Mary currently has almost twice the IMAX presence of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and about 5X more shows than Dhurandhar 2. These numbers reflect the strong demand the film is seeing.

This situation shows how audience response can influence a film’s performance. When viewers show clear interest, it can lead to changes in how a film is distributed and screened. In this case, the demand from audiences and the quick action by Sony Pictures India helped improve the film’s reach.

The film is presented by Amazon MGM Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing International. It is currently playing in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu across IMAX and other large screen formats in India.
