Vikrant Massey Opens Up About Dad Guilt And Break From Work

Vikrant Massey opens up about taking a break from work due to dad guilt and shares emotional moments from his journey into fatherhood.

Vikrant Massey surprised many people when he announced in December 2024 that he would take a break from work. At that time, there was a lot of discussion about his decision, with some linking it to industry pressure. However, the actor later explained that the reason was personal and connected to his family.

Vikrant Massey recently spoke about this phase during a conversation on Mom Talks, hosted by Parineeti Chopra. He shared that he did not expect his decision to become such a big topic. Around the time his son was born, he was very busy with work. He said that he was also feeling physically and mentally tired, which made him think about taking a break.

He explained his feelings by saying, “You know how much we give of ourselves emotionally, physically, mentally. As a first time father, my attention was always at home. I didn’t even question what or why I was doing. I just wanted to wrap up my commitments and spend as much time as possible with Vardaan and Sheetal Thakur. I have said this before I was feeling a little lonely. There was a void.”

His wife Sheetal Thakur also spoke about this and said, “He has this dad guilt.” Vikrant shared a moment that made him realise he needed to slow down. He remembered when his son tried to say “papa” for the first time but could not say it properly. “That’s when it struck me it was time to go back home. Two months later, I made the announcement. This has become the biggest earning of my life I have received more than I ever wanted.”

Talking about fatherhood, Vikrant said that even though fathers may not always express it, they also go through strong emotions after a child is born. He added, “But just like new mothers, new fathers also feel strange stepping out, leaving their baby behind. There’s a conditioning that men must be the providers that’s what pushes us out of the house. It’s natural to envy the one who gets to stay back. We end up calling every 30 minutes just to see the baby’s face. I just want to tell new fathers it’s okay to feel vulnerable and want to go back home.”

Vikrant Massey and Sheetal Thakur welcomed their son Vardaan in February 2024.
