Tom Holland has shared his experience of working on the upcoming film The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan. The film is based on the famous Greek epic written by Homer and is set to release in July. According the conversation with GQ, Tom Holland said, “I can tell you that it is an absolute masterpiece, and I’m taking myself out of that equation.” He added that he was impressed by the way the film was made and how it looked on screen. “Chris Nolan’s movie is fantastic. It’s unlike anything that I’ve ever seen before. I think when I saw the movie, I found myself asking a question that I haven’t asked about a movie for a long time, which is, ‘How did you do that?'”
He also spoke about the scale and effort that went into making the film. “Even as someone that was there on the day and was in the film, I was absolutely blown away by the scale, the scope, his ability to navigate such an intricate and heartfelt story in the middle of this insane kind of action movie,” he said. He added, “So it’s one of my proudest achievements as an actor and I’m so touched that Chris gave me the opportunity to be in the film. And I really think that people are going to be floored.”
The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, whose journey home after the Trojan War is followed in the story. Tom Holland plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus and Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway.
Tom Holland also shared his experience of working with Matt Damon. “We spent so much time together, and what I’m really grateful for with Matt is that he is exactly what I would have hoped he would be like,” he said. He added, “He was a leader. This was a very tough movie and no one worked harder than Matt did. And I think he really set the tone for everyone as to how we were going to collectively make this film.”
The Odyssey is scheduled to release on July 17.
