Kajol recently spoke openly about the challenges she faced while raising her daughter Nysa Devgan. She shared that there was a time when their relationship went through a difficult phase, especially during Nysa’s early teenage years.
Kajol, who has been married to Ajay Devgn since 1999, is a mother to two children, Nysa and Yug. In a recent conversation on Lilly Singh’s podcast, she talked about how parenting has changed over the years and how raising a Gen Z child required her to rethink her approach.
She explained that things became challenging when Nysa was around 12 years old. “Hormones hit, and she was 12. We were all over the place. We were fighting, and we were both irrational and illogical at times,” she said. According to Kajol, this phase led to frequent arguments and misunderstandings between them.
Realising that the situation was not improving, Kajol decided to change the way she handled things. She said that as a parent, she felt it was important to stay calm and take a more thoughtful approach. “Being the adult, I decided I should be more rational. I chose to talk to her instead of fighting as much, to keep communicating till she starts listening,” she explained.
She also shared that this difficult period lasted for nearly three years. During that time, both of them found it hard to connect with each other. “We both struggled for nearly three years. It was like, I don’t want to listen to you, I don’t want to talk to you,” she said.
Over time, things improved as they started having more open conversations. Kajol realised that listening to her daughter was more important than constantly giving advice. She said, “It became about me sitting down and listening to her. Giving her the space to talk and be heard made the biggest difference. That was my biggest learning.”
Today, at 23, Nysa shares a much better relationship with her mother. Kajol has also mentioned earlier that Nysa is not interested in joining the film industry.
On the work front, Kajol was last seen in Maa and Sarzameen. She also appeared in the talk show Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle with Twinkle Khanna and in Season 2 of The Trial Pyaar Kaanoon Dhokha. She will next be seen in Maharagni Queen of Queens, directed by Charan Tej Uppalapati.
