Raja Shivaji, based on the life of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, continued its run at the Indian box office as the film entered its second week in theatres. Starring Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role, the historical drama has been performing steadily despite some drop in collections during weekdays.
Written and directed by Riteish Deshmukh, the film collected Rs. 3.20 crore on its eighth day, which was the second Friday after release. According to Sacnilk, the movie recorded this collection across 3,882 shows. The day 8 figure was around 20 per cent lower than Thursday’s collection of Rs. 4.00 crore.
After eight days in theatres, the total India net collection of Raja Shivaji has reached Rs. 55.85 crore, while the gross collection stands at Rs. 66.23 crore. Based on the current trend, the film is expected to cross the Rs. 70 crore gross mark over the weekend.
The movie was released in both Hindi and Marathi languages. The Marathi version has contributed a larger share to the total collections so far. On the opening day itself, the Marathi version earned Rs. 8 crore, while the Hindi version collected Rs. 3.35 crore.
The film brings the story and life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to the big screen through a large scale historical setup. The project is considered an important film for Riteish Deshmukh, who not only acted in the lead role but also directed the movie.
Apart from Riteish Deshmukh, the cast includes Vidya Balan, Fardeen Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan and Amole Gupte in important roles. Salman Khan also appears in a small cameo role, which has received attention from audiences.
