Meghan Markle is reportedly feeling the financial pressure of maintaining the Sussex lifestyle as new reports claim she has become the primary breadwinner in her marriage to Prince Harry. According to Page Six sources, money is allegedly becoming “tight” for the couple as they continue funding their ultra-expensive life in Montecito, California. Insiders claim the Duke and Duchess of Sussex require at least $6 million a year just to cover operating expenses. A huge chunk of that reportedly goes toward private security for the family, including children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The couple also continues paying off their $15 million Montecito mansion.
It has been revealed that while Harry remains focused on philanthropy projects like the Invictus Games and his role at mental health company BetterUp, Meghan has shifted heavily toward business and brand expansion.
The Duchess is currently focusing on growing her lifestyle brand As Ever after reportedly parting ways with Netflix earlier this year.
There are claims Netflix ended its partnership with As Ever after Meghan’s tie-in series With Love, Meghan failed to move forward beyond a second season. According to insiders, Meghan allegedly felt she had been “left to carry the whole thing by herself.”
Meanwhile, Meghan has continued aggressively expanding her personal business ventures.
Last month, she joined AI-powered fashion platform OneOff as both an investor and featured celebrity curator. The platform allows fans to shop her outfits directly, with Meghan reportedly earning commission percentages from purchases.
According to company executives, her fashion page generated over one million outfit views within just three days of launch.
The former Suits actress has also leaned into influencer-style branding online, recently posting glossy promotional videos for As Ever while wearing luxury jewelry, including a reported $63,000 diamond necklace.
Sources also pointed out Meghan’s powerful network of wealthy female friends, including beauty entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima and makeup mogul Bobbi Brown, who have reportedly supported her business expansion efforts.
During the Sussexes’ recent Australia trip, Meghan also appeared at the “Her Best Life” retreat in Sydney, where attendees reportedly paid thousands of dollars for access to the event.
Meanwhile, Harry’s professional future continues drawing questions. Although he still works with BetterUp as Chief Impact Officer, previous reports have suggested some employees allegedly struggled to define his actual responsibilities within the company.
Despite ongoing rumors about Meghan potentially returning to acting full-time, insiders denied reports that she’s currently searching for a major television role.
Still, with mounting expenses, luxury branding deals, and increasing public scrutiny over their finances, the Sussexes continue facing questions about how sustainable their California lifestyle really is.
