Raja Shivaji Inches Closer To Historic Rs. 100 Crore Milestone

Raja Shivaji collected Rs. 98.10 crore gross in India after a strong Sunday jump and is now close to becoming Marathi cinema’s first Rs. 100 crore film.

Raja Shivaji continued its theatrical run with a good jump on its second Sunday at the Indian box office. The film collected Rs. 3.75 crore gross on Sunday, which was around 20 per cent higher than its Saturday collections. With this, the Riteish Deshmukh starrer ended its second weekend with Rs. 8.35 crore gross. However, the film also recorded a major drop of nearly 80 per cent compared to its opening weekend collections.

After completing its latest weekend, the total collection of Raja Shivaji has now reached Rs. 98.10 crore gross in India. The movie is now very close to entering the Rs. 100 crore club and is expected to achieve the milestone by its second Tuesday. If that happens, Raja Shivaji will become the first Marathi film to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark at the Indian box office.

Earlier Marathi films like Sairat and Baipan Bhari Deva had come very close to achieving this milestone, but both films ended their theatrical runs slightly below the mark. Once Raja Shivaji crosses Rs. 100 crore, it will officially become the highest grossing Marathi film.

At the same time, the film’s box office performance has been different compared to earlier Marathi blockbusters. Both Sairat and Baipan Bhari Deva earned most of their collections from Maharashtra. In comparison, Raja Shivaji has earned nearly Rs. 25 crore from markets outside Maharashtra.

In Maharashtra itself, Raja Shivaji is expected to remain behind the collections of Sairat and Baipan Bhari Deva. Since Maharashtra is considered the core market for Marathi cinema, expectations from the film were much higher. Trade experts had expected the movie to deliver record breaking business in the state, especially after films like Tanhaji and Chhaava performed exceptionally well there. Tanhaji adjusted to around Rs. 250 crore in today’s value, while Chhaava crossed Rs. 300 crore in Maharashtra alone. Raja Shivaji, however, is not expected to reach those levels.

The Box Office Collections for Raja Shivaji in India are as follows:

Week 1: Rs. 61.75 crore
Week 2: Rs. 28.00 crore

3rd Friday: Rs. 1.60 crore
3rd Saturday: Rs. 3.00 crore
3rd Sunday: Rs. 3.75 crore

Total: Rs. 98.10 crore
