Veteran actor Ashok Saraf represented Marathi culture at Cannes Film Festival alongside Nivedita Saraf and other Marathi entertainment personalities.

Veteran actor Ashok Saraf recently attended the ongoing Cannes Film Festival along with his wife Nivedita Saraf as part of a Marathi entertainment delegation representing Maharashtrian culture and cinema on an international platform. Their appearance at the festival attracted attention online, especially because of the group’s strong focus on traditional Maharashtrian fashion and cultural identity.

The Marathi delegation also included actress Prajakta Mali, YouTuber Ankita Walawalkar, podcaster Jayanti Waghdhare and filmmaker Kedar Joshi. The group participated in events connected to the Indian Pavilion while promoting Marathi entertainment and culture globally.

A major highlight came on May 17 when the Marathi representatives appeared on the Cannes red carpet wearing traditional Maharashtrian outfits. Their cultural styling became widely discussed on social media and received praise from many users for presenting regional Indian culture on an international stage.

Ashok Saraf, who is 78 years old, appeared in an ivory bandhgala paired with black trousers. His simple and elegant look was appreciated by many fans online. Nivedita Saraf complemented him in a floral saree along with a zari work shawl that added a festive touch to her appearance. Prajakta Mali and the other members of the delegation also chose traditional fashion for the event.

Ashok Saraf is considered one of the most respected actors in Marathi cinema, television and theatre. His career has spanned more than five decades and includes work across films, television serials and stage productions. He became widely popular because of his comic timing and emotional performances in Marathi films such as Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi, Ek Daav Bhutacha, Dhum Dhadaka and Gammat Jammat.

The actor also worked successfully in Hindi cinema through films like Karan Arjun, Yes Boss, Singham and Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. On television, he became a familiar face through the sitcom Hum Paanch.

Over the years, Ashok Saraf has received several honours for his contribution to Indian entertainment. In 2018, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour, for his work in cinema and performing arts.
