Drishyam 3 has finally released in theatres and opened with strong box office numbers across India. The much awaited film starring Mohanlal earned more than Rs. 18 crore gross on its first day at the Indian box office.
The biggest contribution came from Kerala, where the film collected around Rs. 11 crore gross on opening day alone. The strong response once again highlighted the popularity of the Drishyam franchise among Malayalam cinema audiences.
Apart from Kerala, the film also performed very well in other South Indian markets. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Drishyam 3 collected around Rs. 2.15 crore and created a new record for Malayalam films released in Telugu dubbed versions. It reportedly became the biggest Day 1 opener for a Malayalam movie in those regions.
In Karnataka, the movie collected approximately Rs. 2.75 crore, while Tamil Nadu contributed around Rs. 1.20 crore. The rest of the Indian markets added nearly Rs. 1.30 crore, taking the total Indian gross to Rs. 18.40 crore on the first day.
Directed by Jeethu Joseph, Drishyam 3 has now recorded the second biggest opening day for a Malayalam film in India. The movie currently stands behind only L2: Empuraan in terms of opening day collections.
The Drishyam franchise remains one of the most successful and widely loved series in Malayalam cinema. The first film became a major industry hit, while the second installment skipped theatrical release due to the lockdown period and premiered directly on streaming platforms. Because of this, the third part arrived with extremely high audience expectations.
Trade reports suggest that the film is expected to continue gaining momentum over the weekend. With strong word of mouth and loyal franchise fans, Drishyam 3 may emerge as one of the biggest Malayalam hits of the year.
The film is also expected to challenge the collections of major Malayalam releases like Vaazha 2, Lokah Chapter One: Chandra and Thudarum in the coming weeks.
