Okay, first of all, what the actual hell was this episode of Euphoria? Season 3 Episode 7 genuinely felt like watching everybody’s lives collapse in real time, and somehow the show still managed to make things even darker than before. Nate Jacobs is officially dead, Rue is heading toward what honestly feels like a tragic ending, and the only person holding this entire chaotic universe together right now is Maddie.
Let’s start with Nate because that entire coffin sequence was horrifying to watch.
After Nate’s debts spiral out of control, he gets kidnapped by loan shark Naz and literally buried alive underground inside a coffin with only a tiny breathing pipe. The whole thing was being used as leverage to force Cassie into paying the money back.
But then Cassie makes one of the dumbest impulsive decisions possible and deletes her OnlyFans account without even consulting Maddie or anybody else first. Considering that account was basically their only real source of fast money, it completely destroys whatever plan they had left.
And honestly, even though Cassie has messed up countless times, Maddie STILL helps her but only after she slapped her and Alexa ate that scene up. That is what makes Maddie one of the best characters on the show. Even after the betrayal, the cheating, the friendship destruction, and all the mess with Nate, Maddie still chooses to help Cassie when things get serious. She literally goes to Alamo Brown, Rue’s terrifying boss, to try and save Nate’s life.
Alamo eventually confronts Naz with a fake money drop. When Naz realizes there’s no actual money in the bag, everything explodes into violence. Alamo kills Naz, Artur switches sides, and they finally dig Nate out of the coffin.
But by then it’s already too late.
While trapped underground, a rattlesnake crawls through the pipe into the coffin and bites Nate. By the time Cassie and Maddie open the coffin, he’s already dead with the snake still wrapped around his body.
And honestly? The visuals were disgusting in the most Sam Levinson way possible. Nate’s corpse already looked partially decayed, Cassie was screaming over his body, and the entire thing felt like punishment more than death. Even Jacob Elordi described Nate’s ending as bittersweet.
Cassie completely breaks down afterward, and Maddie is still the one comforting her.
That’s why it annoys me seeing Lexi constantly acting morally superior this season. Everybody around her is trying to survive horrific situations, and she spends most of her time judging people and acting like she’s above them. She keeps accusing Rue of lying and using drugs again even when Rue genuinely seems to be trying. She blames Maddie for Cassie’s choices even though Cassie was already making adult content before Maddie ever got involved.
Meanwhile Maddie is literally risking herself helping everyone around her.
As for Rue, things are looking terrifying.
Throughout the episode she keeps telling people she’s getting better, but nobody believes her anymore. After years of lying, overdosing, disappearing, and manipulating everyone around her, her friends now assume everything she says is fake. Jules literally slapped her in the previous episode after she begged Rue to communicate more honestly, and now Lexi thinks Rue’s spiritual experiences and emotional breakthroughs are just drug-induced delusions.
But the thing is, I actually think Rue IS trying.
Last episode’s burning tree moment genuinely felt symbolic. After nearly dying in a car accident, Rue sees the tree ignite in front of her and interprets it as a sign from God or redemption. Nobody else believes her, but the scene clearly meant something important to her character.
And now the entire season feels like it’s building toward one terrifying possibility: Rue dying.
The show constantly reminds us that Rue is the narrator. Her entire story already feels reflective, almost like someone looking back on their life from the end of it. The way people have stopped believing her, the religious symbolism, the constant near-death experiences, and the emotional isolation all feel like warning signs.
But at the same time, Rue has survived EVERYTHING.
She survived overdoses. She survived Laurie. She survived addiction. She survived being trapped between violent criminals like Laurie and Alamo. Somehow she always finds a way to stay alive.
So maybe this is another situation she escapes from too.
One of the creepiest moments in the episode comes when Rue and Faye try to recover money Laurie stole from Alamo. When they open the case and realize the money is gone, Faye completely freaks out and screams Rue’s name. And honestly, Faye is becoming unbearable this season. Every single time things go wrong she panics, snitches, or throws somebody else under the bus.
But the bigger reveal comes when Rue finds Angel’s ID inside the safe.
That moment was genuinely horrifying.
Earlier in the season, there were already hints about Alamo’s shady ambulance operations and possible connections in Mexico. Fans are now theorizing that Angel may have been killed and had her organs harvested. And honestly, with how dark this season has become, that theory does not even sound impossible anymore.
Maybe Angel is still alive. I genuinely hope so because otherwise this storyline becomes one of the darkest things the show has ever done.
At this point, the finale could honestly go anywhere.
Rue could die. Rue could relapse again. Rue could somehow manipulate her way out like she always does. Cassie is now a widow after losing Nate in the most horrifying way imaginable. Maddie is emotionally exhausted from constantly saving everybody around her. Lexi is isolating herself further from everyone. And Laurie and Alamo’s criminal world is swallowing everything whole.
But if there’s one thing this episode proved, it’s that nobody in Euphoria gets a clean escape.
