Olivia Rodrigo Opens Up About Internet Theories Surrounding Taylor Swift

Olivia Rodrigo has addressed ongoing speculation about her relationship with Taylor Swift, saying she avoids focusing on internet theories.

Singer Olivia Rodrigo has spoken about the long running speculation surrounding her relationship with Taylor Swift. For several years, fans have discussed reports of a possible fallout between the two artists, although neither of them has publicly confirmed any feud. When Olivia was beginning her music career, Taylor was among the established artists who showed support for her work. The two were seen interacting publicly and Olivia often spoke about her admiration for the singer. However, fans noticed that their public interactions became less frequent after Taylor received a songwriting credit on Olivia’s song “Deja Vu” several months after its release.

At the time, there was widespread speculation that concerns had been raised over similarities between “Deja Vu” and Taylor’s song “Cruel Summer.” Reports suggested the matter may have been resolved privately, but neither artist publicly discussed the details.

More recently, Olivia and Taylor were seen at the same event. In March 2026, the two singers were spotted standing near each other at a Paul McCartney concert in Los Angeles. Their appearance at the event sparked fresh discussion among fans about the current state of their relationship.

During a conversation with New York Times’ Popcast, Olivia was asked about the ongoing speculation. Responding to the attention surrounding the topic, she said, “I don’t really read that far into it. I think it comes with the territory, and it’s par for the course. I think if I dove into every internet detective sleuth that got things right or wrong about my life or any of my relationships, I think I’d just go crazy. There’s just not enough time in the day.”

Olivia also reflected on the intense public interest that followed the release of her hit song “Driver’s License.” At the time, many fans believed the song was connected to a reported love triangle involving Joshua Bassett and Sabrina Carpenter.

Speaking about that period, she said, “I had to detach from it in order to literally be OK. It was just such a crazy experience for everyone involved. Yeah, I think I just had to learn to detach, and I think that’s something that I’m hopefully good at these days, still trying to detach from people who don’t know every little detail of my life. I think you just have to, otherwise you just go kind of crazy.”

Olivia had also previously addressed theories linking her 2023 song “Vampire” to Taylor Swift. Speaking to The Guardian, she said, “I was very surprised when people thought that. I mean, I never want to say who any of my songs are about. I’ve never done that before in my career and probably won’t. I think it’s better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing.”

While speculation about her personal and professional relationships continues online, Olivia’s comments suggest she prefers not to focus on internet theories and instead concentrates on her music and career.
