The Social Reckoning Trailer Reveals The Dark Secrets Behind Facebook Files

Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning follows Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen and the events behind the 2021 Facebook Files investigation.

The official trailer for The Social Reckoning, a companion film to Aaron Sorkin’s Oscar winning drama The Social Network, has been released. The film takes a closer look at the impact of modern technology and the people who exposed concerns about one of the world’s biggest social media platforms.

Written and directed by Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin, The Social Reckoning is based on the real events that led to the Wall Street Journal’s 2021 exposé “The Facebook Files”. The story focuses on Frances Haugen, played by Mikey Madison, a young Facebook engineer who decided to reveal internal information about the company. She worked with Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, portrayed by Jeremy Allen White, to bring important documents and findings into the public spotlight.

The film follows Haugen and Horwitz as they navigate the challenges and risks involved in exposing information that Facebook had kept private. Through their efforts, questions were raised about how social media platforms operate, how they affect users, and what responsibilities technology companies have toward the public.

The trailer presents the story as a fast paced drama that combines investigative journalism, corporate power struggles, and personal risk. It also highlights the broader debate around accountability in the technology industry and the influence social media platforms have on everyday life.

Alongside Madison and White, the film features a strong supporting cast that includes Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, Bill Burr, and Jeremy Strong. The ensemble cast brings to life the individuals involved in a story that became one of the most discussed technology controversies of recent years.

Rather than focusing only on the growth of social media, The Social Reckoning examines the consequences and concerns that emerged from within one of the industry’s most influential companies. By drawing from real events, the film aims to explore the relationship between technology, business interests, public trust, and transparency.

Sony Pictures Entertainment India will release The Social Reckoning exclusively in English in theatres on 9th October, 2026.
