Punjabi singer and actor Gippy Grewal has spoken publicly about the firing incident that took place outside his home in Vancouver, Canada, in 2023. During an appearance on Shekhar Suman’s chat show Shekhar Tonite, Grewal shared his experience and said he was completely unaware of any reason that could have led to such an attack.
Recalling the incident, Gippy said he was left confused when the firing took place because he had never received any warning or threat beforehand. He said, “When the firing happened outside my house, I honestly didn’t know why it had happened. I had never received any call. Nobody had threatened me. Later, a post surfaced explaining why they did it.”
The shooting outside his residence in November 2023 attracted widespread attention after a social media post allegedly linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi surfaced online. The post claimed responsibility for the incident and reportedly described it as a warning connected to Gippy’s perceived relationship with Bollywood actor Salman Khan. It also reportedly carried warnings for others and suggested that Punjabi celebrities should avoid maintaining ties with the actor.
However, Gippy clarified that his association with Salman Khan was not as close as many people believed. Speaking about the matter, he said, “The reality is that I had only met Salman sir a few times while promoting films on Bigg Boss and during a trailer launch. We didn’t even have a close friendship. But they assumed otherwise, and that led to the incident.”
The incident involving Gippy was followed by other similar cases involving entertainment industry personalities. In 2024, shots were reportedly fired outside the Canadian residence of Punjabi singer AP Dhillon. Reports suggested that the Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility and linked the incident to a music video featuring Salman Khan.
During the same year, multiple rounds of gunfire were reportedly fired outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments residence in Mumbai’s Bandra area. Investigators believed the attackers were connected to the Bishnoi gang.
More recently, gunshots were reported outside a gym owned by Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa in Delhi’s Paschim Vihar. No injuries were reported, and police recovered seven empty cartridges from the location.
According to PTI, the investigation led to the arrest of two alleged members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Police said the suspects were believed to be shooters linked to gangster Anil Pandit, who is reportedly operating from the United States.
For several years, the Bishnoi gang has been associated with threats directed at Salman Khan over his alleged involvement in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case in Rajasthan.
