Warner Bros has introduced a unique promotional campaign for Tom Cruise’s upcoming comedy film Digger. On June 23, 2026, the studio released a three minute retrospective trailer that looks back at some of the actor’s most memorable roles before offering viewers a brief first look at his new film.
The trailer begins with one of Cruise’s most recognizable lines from Top Gun, where he says, “I feel the need. The need for speed.” It then moves to a scene from Interview with the Vampire, where his character Lestat says, “I assume I need no introduction”. From there, the video highlights several films that have defined Cruise’s career over the years.
Viewers are shown scenes from Mission: Impossible, Edge of Tomorrow, The Last Samurai, Collateral, Minority Report and Tropic Thunder. The trailer also includes dramatic moments and memorable dialogue from Magnolia, Jerry Maguire and Rain Man. The retrospective approach gives audiences a look at the wide range of characters Cruise has portrayed during his decades in Hollywood.
The final section of the trailer shifts attention to Digger. The brief preview shows Cruise appearing in a very different role from many of his previous performances. He speaks with a Southern accent and is seen carrying extra weight while walking with a distinctive style. In the scene, he enters an arena as a crowd cheers around him.
Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, an oil baron, in the film. According to the filmmakers, the movie is described as “a comedy of catastrophic proportions”. The project is directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu and marks another major collaboration between the acclaimed filmmaker and a high profile cast.
After the trailer was released, Cruise shared it on X and reflected on his long career. He wrote, “For the last 46 years, it has been my privilege to work alongside countless talented artists and crews to create these characters, stories, and films for you all. I’m looking forward to seeing you at the movies!”
Digger also features Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg and Jesse Plemons in key roles. The full trailer is scheduled for release on July 13, while the film is set to arrive in theaters on October 2.
