Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is set to release in cinemas this weekend, and the film has already recorded a strong response in advance bookings across India. As of Wednesday morning, the epic drama had sold around 75000 tickets for its opening day across the country’s top two national cinema chains, PVR Inox and Cinepolis.
With 2 more days remaining before its release, trade estimates suggest that the film could close its advance booking with around 130000 to 140000 tickets sold in these two national chains. The steady pace of ticket sales indicates that audience interest remains strong as the release date approaches.
Although the advance booking numbers are currently lower than Christopher Nolan’s previous film Oppenheimer, the overall box office collections may still end up in a similar range. Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy, had sold around 200000 tickets in PVR Inox and Cinepolis before its opening day. Despite that higher ticket count, industry estimates suggest that The Odyssey could achieve comparable, or even slightly higher, opening day collections because of factors such as ticket pricing and audience demand.
According to trade trends, The Odyssey is still expected to open ahead of Oppenheimer in terms of gross collections. The pace of ticket sales has remained steady, and many expect bookings to increase further during the final days before release.
For comparison, Oppenheimer earned ₹17.77 crore gross, or ₹14.58 crore nett, on its opening day in India. Current estimates indicate that The Odyssey could come close to ₹20 crore gross on Day 1 if advance bookings continue to grow and spot bookings remain strong.
Earlier trade forecasts had predicted that the film would collect between ₹15 crore and ₹20 crore nett on its opening day. The final result will depend on how audiences respond once the film releases in theatres and how strongly it performs through the weekend.
Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey is one of the most anticipated Hollywood releases of the year. With advance bookings continuing to grow and strong interest from moviegoers, the film is expected to make a solid start at the Indian box office. All attention is now on its opening day performance and whether it can match or surpass the success of Oppenheimer.
