Christopher Nolan’s epic drama The Odyssey continues its impressive run at the Indian box office. The film collected Rs. 2.50 crore gross on its third Monday, registering a 37 per cent drop compared to its third Friday. Despite the expected weekday decline, the film has maintained a steady performance and remains one of the strongest Hollywood releases of the year in India.
With its latest collection, The Odyssey has earned Rs. 20.75 crore gross during the first 4 days of its third week. The film’s total collection in India now stands at Rs. 180.50 crore gross. The strong performance has brought it closer to the Rs. 200 crore milestone, which it is expected to achieve during its fourth weekend if the current trend continues.
One of the biggest highlights of the film’s theatrical run has been its outstanding performance in IMAX theatres. The Odyssey has become the highest grossing IMAX release ever in India, surpassing Christopher Nolan’s previous blockbuster Oppenheimer. More than Rs. 60 crore of the film’s total earnings have come from just 36 IMAX screens across the country. This once again highlights Nolan’s strong fan following and the popularity of premium format screenings among Indian audiences.
However, the film may soon face fresh competition for IMAX screens. The upcoming release of Spider Man: Brand New Day is expected to occupy many premium format theatres, which could affect The Odyssey’s collections in the coming weeks. Even so, the film has already established itself as one of the biggest Hollywood successes in India this year.
The film features an ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. Backed by Christopher Nolan’s direction, the film has attracted audiences with its grand scale, visual storytelling and strong performances.
Based on its current box office trend, The Odyssey is expected to finish its theatrical run at around Rs. 215 crore gross in India. If that happens, it will become Christopher Nolan’s highest grossing film in the country, surpassing the lifetime collections of Oppenheimer.
