Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for its upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series VisionQuest during the D23 Disney Entertainment Showcase. The new series will arrive on Disney+ on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and will continue the story of one of Marvel’s most unusual characters.
According to Marvel Studios, VisionQuest will be the final part of a trilogy that started with WandaVision in 2021 and continued with Agatha All Along in 2024. The three series are connected through their stories and characters, with VisionQuest expected to bring this chapter of the Marvel storyline to a close.
The trailer gives viewers their first look at Paul Bettany returning as Vision. Bettany has played the android Avenger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for several years. His return is particularly important because Vision’s story has already gone through several major changes.
James Spader will also return as Ultron, the artificial intelligence villain he previously played in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Ultron remains closely connected to Vision’s history, making his appearance in the new series significant.
The cast also includes Orla Brady, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, James D’Arcy, Emily Hampshire and Ruaridh Mollica. More details about their characters and their roles in the story are expected to emerge as the release date gets closer.
Vision was last seen in the finale of WandaVision, where a rebuilt version of the character appeared after the original Vision had been destroyed. His earlier death took place before the events of Avengers: Infinity War. In WandaVision, Vision’s memories of his life as an Avenger were restored, after which he flew away to an unknown destination.
VisionQuest will now explore what happened to the character after that departure. The return of Ultron also suggests that Vision’s past and his connection to artificial intelligence will play an important role in the new story.
The trailer was shown at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney’s biennial event where the company presents upcoming films, series, experiences and other projects. This year’s event is being held at the Anaheim Convention Center from Friday to Sunday.
VisionQuest will premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
