Nicole Kidman has made a surprise appearance in Troye Sivan’s latest music video, She’s The Best, creating plenty of attention among fans. The 59 year old actress appears alongside the 31 year old singer in a stylish club setting, where the two share several playful and close moments.
Released on Thursday, the music video features Kidman wearing a fitted black dress with an oversized black coat. She completes the look with leather gloves and dark sunglasses. At the beginning of the video, Kidman is seen walking down the street while smoking a cigarette before making her way into a club.
Inside the club, Sivan performs alongside several drag queens, including Sasha Colby, the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15. Kidman watches the performance from the front while enjoying a cocktail. She later gestures towards Sivan, inviting him closer.
The two then dance together while standing close to each other, with their faces nearly touching. At another point, Kidman dances with Sivan behind her, adding to the playful tone of the video.
Sivan’s song describes a confident woman through its lyrics. “She’s walking down the street with her little thin cigarette / Great smile, and a c-m stain on her dress / DJs from Wednesday to Monday / Don’t ask, she’s not taking any f–king requests,” he sings.
He continues, “Quick drag, a rouge cheek, a blush lip / Eyeliner in her waterline and some contour on her t-ts / Night owl and somehow an early bird / She kind of just stays perpetually tired.”
Fans quickly reacted to the unexpected collaboration. One wrote, “Nicole Kidman in a Troye Sivan video was not on my bingo card but I really love it.” Another commented, “And when the world needed him more than ever, he grabbed Nicole Kidman and said, ‘let’s show em,’” while another called it “An ode to women??!? Love!”
Sivan and Kidman previously worked together in the 2018 film Boy Erased. Sivan has also spoken warmly about the actress, saying, “She’s always just been such a picture of the divine feminine to me.”
Sivan recalled that he sent Kidman the song and video references before she contacted him from an unknown number. “I let it go to voicemail, and then I see the transcription starts coming, it’s like, ‘Hi darling Troye, it’s Nic,’” he recalled. “I slammed my laptop shut and just ended the meeting.”
Sivan’s upcoming album, She’s The Best, is scheduled to release on Oct. 9.
