Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has opened up about his long relationship with Shubhra Shetty and addressed whether marriage could be part of their future. The couple have been together for nearly a decade and have often attracted attention because of their 20 year age difference. In a recent interaction with Janice Sequeira, Anurag was asked about his marriage plans with Shubhra. The filmmaker explained that Shubhra does not believe in marriage, while he is more focused on continuing their relationship rather than putting a formal label on it. He said that being with her and protecting the relationship is more important to him.
“I’m very happy to be with her. I want to be with her. So, whatever that takes. There’s a lot in life. What is an old man’s insecurity? I want to be healthy enough to outlive the people I love. Because if it doesn’t happen, then what can happen after that? The ways of the world. So, I think about it a lot. But my thing is, as long as we have found what we have found now, I’m happy with anything. I don’t want to lose this.”
The director later repeated his feelings about their relationship and made it clear that he does not want the question of marriage to affect what they have built together.
“As long as we have found what we have found now, I’m happy with anything. I don’t want to lose this.”
Anurag also spoke about the attention surrounding their age gap. He admitted that he has become more conscious of the difference over the years. According to the filmmaker, he initially tried not to think too much about the age gap, but it became more noticeable to him as he grew older.
Shubhra had previously worked as an assistant director at Anurag’s production company Phantom Films. The filmmaker was first photographed with her in 2015, while the couple reportedly confirmed their relationship in 2018.
Before Shubhra, Anurag was married to editor Aarti Bajaj. The two separated in 2009 after six years of marriage and have a daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap. Anurag later married actor Kalki Koechlin in 2011. Their marriage ended after four years, although they have continued to share a connection through their daughter Sappho.
Anurag’s latest comments suggest that marriage is not necessarily the focus of his relationship with Shubhra. Instead, he appears more concerned about maintaining the bond they have built and continuing their life together.
