Netflix’s popular animated series Blue Eye Samurai is returning for a second season, and the story is taking Mizu far beyond Japan. The streaming platform has released the official season 2 teaser on 21 August 2026, giving viewers a first look at the next part of her revenge journey.
Created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, Blue Eye Samurai is set in 17th century Japan during the Edo period. The series follows Mizu, a mixed race sword master who is determined to find the people connected to her past and take revenge on them. The first season became a major success for Netflix and the series was renewed for season 2 in December 2023.
Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in January 2027, although an exact release date has not yet been announced. Maya Erskine will return as the voice of Mizu. Other returning voice actors include Kenneth Branagh as Abijah Fowler, George Takei as Seki, Masi Oka as Ringo, Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa as the Swordmaker, Brenda Song as Akemi and Darren Barnet as Taigen.
Randall Park will return as Heiji Shindo, along with Stephanie Hsu as Ise, Ming Na Wen as Madame Kaji, Harry Shum Jr. as Takayoshi and Mark Dacascos as Chiaki. Netflix has not yet revealed the complete list of new characters and voice actors joining the second season.
The new season will continue Mizu’s search for revenge, but the story will now move from Japan to London. At the end of season 1, Mizu sailed toward London with Abijah Fowler as her prisoner. Fowler is one of the men Mizu believes may be connected to her parentage, making him important to her search for the remaining people she wants to find.
Mizu had already killed Violet before the events of the first season. Fowler survived because, as creator Michael Green explained, he can serve as a “road map” to the other men Mizu is searching for.
The London setting will also introduce Mizu to a completely different culture. Co creator Amber Noizumi has suggested that the new season will explore how Europeans react to Mizu and how she deals with the unfamiliar world around her.
The story will also continue in Japan. Akemi and Taigen will face new challenges inside Edo Castle under a dangerous new shogun, while Ringo searches for a new purpose. Season 2 is scheduled to arrive in January 2027.
