Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s action film Alpha completed its first week at the Indian box office with an estimated collection of Rs. 45.10 crore nett. On Thursday, the film earned around Rs. 2.10 crore nett, bringing its 7 day total to just over Rs. 45 crore nett. The film had a decent start on its opening day and maintained good momentum over its first weekend. However, collections dropped noticeably from Monday onwards and continued to decline through the rest of the week.
The film opened with Rs. 9.00 crore on Friday, followed by Rs. 11.50 crore on Saturday and Rs. 12.50 crore on Sunday. After the weekend, the collections fell to Rs. 3.50 crore on Monday. It earned Rs. 4.00 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 2.50 crore on Wednesday and around Rs. 2.10 crore on Thursday, taking its first week total to Rs. 45.10 crore nett.
According to trade trends, the film’s mixed response from audiences appears to have affected its weekday performance. Although it started on a positive note, it was unable to maintain the same pace after the opening weekend. With new releases arriving in theatres, Alpha is expected to face additional pressure on its box office collections.
The film will now compete with Dhamaal 4, which is expected to attract a large share of cinema audiences. Because of this, Alpha is likely to witness another drop in collections during its second week. Based on its current performance, trade estimates suggest the film may finish its theatrical run in India with around Rs. 55 crore to Rs. 60 crore nett.
Alpha also faced certain challenges even before its release. Female led action films have traditionally found it difficult to achieve strong box office results in India. In addition, the film is part of the YRF Spy Universe, which has seen mixed commercial performances from recent releases such as Tiger 3 and War 2. Despite these factors, the film managed to register a decent opening weekend before slowing down during the weekdays.
The makers have also drawn attention for following a straightforward release strategy without resorting to practices that have often been debated within the film industry. While the film’s commercial performance may not meet expectations, the production house has continued with its usual approach of accepting both success and failure without making unnecessary claims.
