Raja Shivaji Box Office Surprise, Riteish Deshmukh’s Film Stays Strong Despite Mixed Reviews

Riteish Deshmukh’s Raja Shivaji holds strong at the box office, crossing ₹40 crore globally despite mixed reviews and tough competition.

The box office is seeing an interesting weekend as Raja Shivaji continues to perform well despite receiving mixed reactions from audiences and critics. Starring Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role, the historical drama has managed to pull steady crowds to theatres since its release.

According to early estimates, the film saw a small growth in collections on its third day, Sunday. It earned around ₹12 crore, which is slightly higher than its Saturday collection of ₹10.55 crore. The film had opened with ₹11.35 crore on its first day, showing a strong start. With these numbers, the total India gross collection has reached ₹40.34 crore, while the net collection stands at ₹33.90 crore. Released on May 1, the film also created history by recording the biggest opening ever for a Marathi film.

One of the key reasons behind its steady performance is its release in both Hindi and Marathi languages. This has helped the film reach a wider audience across different regions. On Sunday alone, the Hindi version contributed ₹3.52 crore, while the Marathi version brought in ₹6.91 crore. Even with competition at the box office, the film has remained stable.

The movie faced a clash with Ek Din, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi. However, the competing film reportedly saw a big drop in collections on its second day, earning less than ₹1 crore. This gave Raja Shivaji more space to perform better and attract audiences.

After the film’s release, Riteish Deshmukh shared a heartfelt message thanking viewers for their love and support. He expressed gratitude for the positive response and said the entire team feels thankful to the audience for appreciating the film.

The movie is backed by Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company. It is produced by Genelia D’Souza and Jyoti Deshpande. Genelia also plays the role of Saibai in the film, while Riteish portrays Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Their sons, Rahyl and Riaan, appear as the younger version of Shivaji.

The film also features a strong supporting cast including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi and Amole Gupte.

The story focuses on the early life of Shivaji Maharaj and his dream of Swarajya. It shows his bravery and smart strategies as he fought against powerful forces like the Mughal Empire and regional rulers. Important moments such as the attack on Shaista Khan in Pune and the raid on Surat are also shown, highlighting his courage and leadership.

Despite mixed reviews, Raja Shivaji is proving that strong storytelling and audience interest can keep a film running successfully at the box office.
