Marvel Studios’ much-anticipated film The Fantastic Four: First Steps, directed by Matt Shakman, is set to hit theatres worldwide on 25th July 2025. Starring a stellar cast including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Julia Garner, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, the film marks the big-screen debut of Marvel’s iconic first family in the MCU. With strong domestic buzz and moderate interest internationally, the film is expected to open globally with an impressive $200 million, a solid figure considering its position as the final release before Avengers: Doomsday.
India Opening Slows Amidst Local Competition
In India, the advance bookings for The Fantastic Four: First Steps have been off to a modest start. As of one day before release, the film has sold around 40,000 tickets on BookMyShow, aiming to reach 100,000 by release day. For comparison, Superman had sold 110,000 tickets and opened to over ₹6 crore. Marvel’s latest entry is eyeing similar figures, though initial numbers suggest it may fall slightly short.
Saiyaara Wave Impacts Screen Availability
A major challenge facing the film’s India release is the ongoing “Saiyaara wave,” which has restricted screen space. Until the evening before release, bookings were only available in IMAX and other premium formats. Regular screen bookings are expected to boost numbers, and without the current screen-sharing constraints, the film could have aimed for an opening day above ₹8 crore. These issues may ease over the weekend.

Aiming to Extend Hollywood’s Winning Run in India
Following the recent success of F1 (blockbuster), Jurassic World: Rebirth (hit), and Superman (decent), The Fantastic Four: First Steps will aim to maintain Hollywood’s momentum in India. However, week 2 will pose challenges with Son of Sardaar 2, Dhadak 2, and Saiyaara competing for screen time.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps releases in theatres from 25th July, 2025.
