The coming Friday will see the release of Vidya Balan’s KAHAANI 2: DURGA RANI SINGH, the next in the KAHAANI franchise. The film is likely to see some patronage at multiplexes, though the expected hype is missing.
Meanwhile, after good multiplex opening the Gauri Shinde directed Shah Rukh Khan (extended cameo) and Alia Bhatt starrer, DEAR ZINDAGI, went from strength-to-strength, netting 32.50 crore during the opening weekend from India. If one goes by the weekdays’ trend, the film is likely to end the opening week with a haul of around 50 crore (estimated). As per the trade, the film has incurred an expense of 33 crore (22 crore production, 11 crore promotion) and has been sold for distribution in India to Narendra Hirawat for 32 crore plus 3 crore advance. Given the India run, the film is likely to end up as a success. DEAR ZINDAGI is on a good run in the overseas, grossing $4m with £157,000 from UK and $1,400,000 (Wednesday-Sunday) from the US, during the opening weekend (25-27 November).
The second release, GPA Productions’ Rajniesh and Sonarika starrer, SAANSEIN, fared quite well (thanks to B & C centres), netting 2.30 crore during the opening weekend, which in the wake of DEAR ZINDAGI and demonetization (impact more at smaller centres) is a creditable effort for the 8 crore (all inclusive budget) film.
The third release of the same week, Ranveer Shorey and Neha Dhupia starrer, MOH MAYA MONEY, failed to make any impact whatsoever at the box-office.
Last week witnessed the release of the John Abraham and Sonakshi Sinha starrer, FORCE 2, which saw an ordinary run collecting 2.50 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 90 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 35 lakhs from Surat, 15.75 lakhs from Baroda, 11.15 lakhs from Rajkot, 75 lakhs from Pune, 12.10 lakhs from Nasik, 13.50 lakhs from Goa, 3.75 lakhs from Belgaum, 1.65 crore from Delhi city, 41.50 lakhs from Noida, 31.25 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 21.15 lakhs from Kanpur, 41.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 15 lakhs from Agra, 9.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 3.25 lakhs from Aligarh, 14.75 lakhs from Dehradun, 45 lakhs from Gurgaon, 20.15 lakhs from Faridabad, 3 lakhs from Kurukshtera, 5 lakhs from Panipat, 21.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 10.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 5 lakhs from Patiala, 8 lakhs from Amritsar, 13.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 4.20 lakhs from Bhatinda, 2 lakhs from Ambala, 1.50 lakhs from Jammu, 70 lakhs from Calcutta, 1 lakh from Darjeeling, 6.50 lakhs from Siliguri, 15.20 lakhs from Patna, 5.15 lakhs from Dhanbad, 9 lakhs from Ranchi, 8.25 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 3.75 lakhs from Guwahati, 16.75 lakhs from Nagpur, 21.75 lakhs from Raipur, 30 lakhs from Indore (collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 7 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 18.50 lakhs from Bhopal, 40 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 10 cinemas unrecieved), 10 lakhs from Jodhpur, 6.15 lakhs from Ajmer, 2 lakhs from Bikaner, 10.50 lakhs from Kota, 9.25 lakhs from Udaipur, 45 lakhs from Hyderabad, 11.50 lakhs from Aurangabad, 85 lakhs from Bangalore, 5.50 lakhs from Mangalore, 5.50 lakhs from Mysore, 5.50 lakhs from Vijayawada, 5.75 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 1 lakh from Coimbatore and 7 lakhs from Kochi. Netting 27 crore during the opening week from India, the film will struggle for survival.
Meanwhile, Anubhav Sinha’s TUM BIN 2 failed to replicate the magic of TUM BIN as it collected 50 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 15 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5 lakhs from Surat, 2.15 lakhs from Baroda, 2.15 lakhs from Rajkot, 10 lakhs from Pune, 1.25 lakhs from Nasik, 1.75 lakhs from Goa, 35 lakhs from Delhi city, 10 lakhs from Noida, 7.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 6 lakhs from Kanpur, 7.55 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.75 lakhs from Agra, 2.15 lakhs from Allahabad, 1 lakh from Aligarh, 2.75 lakhs from Dehradun, 10 lakhs from Gurgaon, 4.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 3.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 2 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1 lakh from Patiala, 1.50 lakhs from Amritsar, 3 lakhs from Ludhiana, 15 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.55 lakhs from Siliguri, 3.15 lakhs from Patna, 1.25 lakhs from Dhanbad, 2 lakhs from Ranchi, 1.55 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 5 lakhs from Nagpur, 4 lakhs from Raipur, 10 lakhs from Indore, 2 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 2 cinemas unrecieved), 3.55 lakhs from Bhopal, 10 lakhs from Jaipur(collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 1.75 lakhs from Jodhpur, 1 lakh from Ajmer, 1.75 lakhs from Kota, 1.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 15 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.75 lakhs from Aurangabad, 10 lakhs from Bangalore, 1 lakh from Mangalore and 1 lakh from Vijayawada. Netting 5 crore during the opening week from India, TUM BIN 2 has to thank its reasonable budget (6.50 crore) and recovery from non-theatrical rights, for whatever profits it has managed for the producers.
Concluding with Aishwarya, Ranbir and Anushka venture, AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL, the film added another crore, thus netting 110 crore in four weeks from India and given the non-theatrical rights (already in) and the superb global run, the film is a hit. ADHM is rocking in the overseas grossing $12.50m with £1,425,000 from UK and $4,250,000 from the US.
