Bollywood Box Office Report Of The Week: 7th Mar 2019

The prominent release of the week is Red Chillies and Azure Entertainment’s Amitabh-Taapsee starrer, BADLA. Of course there are other names like Raghubeer Yadav’s  BLACKBOARD/ WHITEBOARD, Piecewing Productions’ YEH SUHAAG RAAT IMPOSSIBLE etc, to name a few. The front runner will obviously be Sujoy Ghosh’s Glasgow (Scotland) based taut, suspense drama BADLA. However, the Hollywood venture, CAPTAIN MARVEL will be more than a handful for the Hindi releases as well as the still strong older ventures like TOTAL DHAMAAL and LUKA CHUPPI etc.

Last Friday’s clash between Maddock Film’s  LUKA CHUPPI and Abhishek Chaubey’s SONCHIRIYA turned out to be a tame affair as the former turned out to be a runaway hit while the latter a commercial disaster. Coming to the Kriti Sanon and Katrik Aryan rom-com, the film saw a decent start (7.75 crore) but showed a big improvement, netting over 30 crore during the opening weekend and is sure to end up as a clean hit, if not more. LUKA CHUPPI has also scored in the overseas (especially US) grossing $1.15m with £65,000 from UK and $440,000 from the US during the opening weekend(1-3 March).  On the other hand  the Sushant Singh Rajput and Bhumi Pednekar period dacoit drama saw a huge critical acclaim but barely managed 3 crore at the end of the first weekend and the outcome is obvious. The film has also been rejected in the overseas.
