Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on Sunday, June 23. Following the legal formalities of their civil marriage, the couple hosted a grand reception at Shilpa Shetty’s restaurant, Bastian, in Mumbai. For the register wedding, Sonakshi chose to honor her family by wearing her mother Poonam Sinha’s saree, which is rich in sentimental value.
The intricately embroidered ivory saree, adorned with vintage jewelry from her mother’s collection, was first worn by Poonam Sinha during her own wedding festivities nearly 44 years ago. Zaheer complemented her look perfectly in an off-white kurta pyjama.
Shortly after their wedding, the couple shared their wedding pictures on Instagram, accompanied by a heartfelt note. They reminisced about the beginning of their relationship seven years ago and expressed gratitude for the love that has carried them through challenges and triumphs, bringing them to this moment of becoming husband and wife. Their note read:
“On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017) in each other’s eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it. Today that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading up to this moment… where with the blessings of both our families and both our Gods… we are now man and wife. Here’s to love, hope and all things beautiful with each other, from now until forever ❤️ Sonakshi ♾️ Zaheer. 23.06.2024.”
For the reception, Sonakshi dazzled in a custom red ‘chand boota’ brocade saree by Raw Mango, proudly displaying her sindoor while posing for the paparazzi with Zaheer. The event saw the attendance of several Bollywood celebrities, including Salman Khan, Honey Singh, Saira Bano, Rekha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Siddharth, Anil Kapoor, Chunky Panday, Raveena Tandon, and Kajol, among others, who came to bless the couple.
Zaheer’s father, Iqbal Ratansi, clarified in an interview with The Free Press Journal that the wedding was conducted under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, and confirmed that Sonakshi would not be converting to Islam. He emphasized that their marriage is a union of hearts, transcending religious boundaries, and highlighted the importance of humanity over religious differences.
Sonakshi and Zaheer have been in a relationship for seven years and starred together in the 2022 film Double XL.
