Srishti Shrivastava the famous Girliyapa girl who made her mark with her very first stint with acting as Reyhaneh Jabbari in Faezeh Jalali’s theatre 7/7/07, followed by Mahabharata’s Amba and Draupadi in Shikhandi: The Story of the In-betweens (which won her the best actress award at META theatre festival), then came the independent Aarti in Manav Kaul’s Chuhal. Then she made her presence felt as Albina Dadarkar in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy. Her zest to search for versatility has landed her an important role in Gulabo Sitabo. The Shoojit Sircar directed movie which is the current talk of the town for all reasons. Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana in lead. Written by Juhi Chaturvedi, Gulabo Sitabo will stream on Prime Video from 12 June 2020. Here Srishti Shrivastava shares her experience and her journey till now in a candid heartfelt interview.
What is the hilarious girl from Girliyapa or the courageous Reyhaneh Jabbari doing in Gulabo Sitabo?
Well, the hilarious girl from Girliyapa or the courageous Reyhaneh Jabbari happens to be an actress by the name Shristi Shrivastava. She gave an audition for the role to Jogi Sir and got selected for the role and is quite glad.
You rejected roles like Parineeti Chopra’s friend in Namaste England, what is unique about Guddo?
I did not reject the role of Parineeti Chopra’s friend in Namaste England. I felt it was not the right time for me as I was busy with other things. What is unique about Guddo, ab uske liye toh aap please movie dekhein 12 June ko Prime Video pe. The best I can say is Guddo from Gulabo Sitabo is fun and quite close to me.
A movie with names like Amitabh Bachchan, Ayushman Khurrana, Vijay Raaz, Bijendra Kala, how will Guddo make her present felt?
I swear. This question flashed my mind for a second (just joking) but the fact is if I am associated with such awesome talented group of icons like Amitabh Bachchan, immensely talented star like star like Ayushman Khurrana, such great artiste like Vijay Raaz and Bijendra Kala. A storyteller like Shoojit Sircar, a writer like Juhi Chaturvedi, it is a moment of proud. How Guddo will make her presence felt amidst these awesome talents? Any memorable moments from Gulabo Sitabo which you would like to share?
Many but this one tops all in my list. It was during the end. We had done the shooting and some portion was remaining and it started raining. Normally when it rains, there is a sort of hustle bustle around. But on the contrary, we on the sets where relaxed and chilled. We had days in our hand as we completed shooting before scheduled. So, when it rained, we just sat there on the sets which everyone is seeing in the promos and enjoyed the rain. Felt the breeze, had tea.
What is the difference between acting in a play, a digital movie/series etc., TV, movies?
Acting is the common denominator but acting on stage and for a movie or web is different. On stage your projection and your voice should reach up to the last row. Whereas in front of the camera, it gets different, even a movement of an eye lid can portray the emotion which you want to share.
On which platform you feel you have a better chance of finding your mojo – cinema, theatre, TV, digital or dancing?
Everywhere. I love dancing, I want to dance in movies but acting is the thing which I want to explore to the maximum.
By nature, are you Girliyapa or Reyhaneh Jabbari or something else?
The characters l play are not me as a person. Perhaps, sometime a trait might be found. As a person I am Shristi, I love my work and love to work and have fun.
What kind of role do you think you will fit into perfectly?
Quite Interesting. Sehmat from Raazi or Rani from Queen.
Actor and actresses who inspire you.
I have said previously, its Alia Bhatt, she is amazing. Bachchan sir, now I have seen him working in front of my eyes, it’s just fabulous. Ranveer Singh – my goodness. Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan but its Alia Bhatt that inspires me the most.
Your discovery during the lockdown.
I can’t cook. There are good things and bad things we must cope with it. This too shall pass; tough people last all these adages literally getting a meaning.

What next after Gulabo Sitabo?
