The popular on-screen pair is reportedly set to reunite for an upcoming romantic comedy directed by Amit Sharma, adding to the growing buzz around their fresh pairing.
Shahid and Rashmika recently wrapped the shoot of Cocktail 2, which also stars Kriti Sanon and is helmed by filmmaker Homi Adajania. According to a report by Variety India, the chemistry between Shahid and Rashmika on set was strong enough to inspire the two actors to sign yet another project together. Their next venture, an untitled romantic comedy, is expected to explore romance and humor in equal measure, while offering a more emotionally nuanced dynamic between the leads.
Director Amit Sharma, known for delivering heartfelt and socially rooted films like Badhaai Ho and the sports drama Maidaan, will helm the project. His storytelling sensibilities are expected to bring depth to what is being described as a light-hearted yet layered romantic entertainer. The upcoming romantic comedy will be produced by Sunir Kheterpal under The Vermilion World banner, in association with Jio Studios. The makers are reportedly planning to take the project on floors between August and September 2026, once both actors complete their existing commitments.
Meanwhile, Cocktail 2 has officially wrapped filming, much to the excitement of fans. A few days ago, director Homi Adajania took to social media to announce the completion of the shoot. Sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses from the wrap celebration, he wrote, “Cocktail2 shoot wrapped. I may be biased, but this one feels a tad special. Big love to my fab crew & cast for tolerating the absurdity that I am. Love you guys.” The post sparked enthusiasm among fans eager to see the sequel to the 2012 hit Cocktail.
Although the makers have not yet announced an official release date, industry speculation suggests that Cocktail 2 could arrive in cinemas by September this year. The film promises to deliver a fresh take on modern relationships while retaining the charm and humor that made the original a fan favorite.
On the work front, Shahid Kapoor also has a major theatrical release lined up before his next romantic ventures. The actor will be seen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s action-thriller O’ Romeo, which marks his big-screen collaboration with a stellar ensemble cast including Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal, and Vikrant Massey. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on February 13, 2026.
