As Akshay Kumar gears up for the release of his upcoming movie Khel Khel Mein, slated to hit theaters on 15th August, let’s take a look back at his Independence Day releases over the years. Known for his patriotic fervor and commitment to entertaining audiences, Akshay Kumar has made it a tradition to release a film around Independence Day almost every year.

The trend began in 2013 with Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara, where Kumar played a villainous role in the Milan Luthria directorial. However, the film didn’t perform well at the box office. His next release, Entertainment in 2014, became a hit post its cinema run when it aired on television.

In 2015, the sports drama Brothers hit the screens, followed by the successful Rustom in 2016, which clashed with Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro and emerged victorious. Toilet Ek Prem Katha released on 11th August 2017 and was well-received by audiences.

Continuing the streak, Gold made a patriotic release on 15th August 2018, followed by the success of Mission Mangal in 2019. The year 2020 saw a break in this tradition due to the pandemic-induced lockdown. However, Akshay Kumar made a comeback in 2021 with Bellbottom, which premiered on OTT platforms.

In 2022, Raksha Bandhan released on August 11th but failed to impress at the box office. OMG 2 hit theaters on the same date in 2023 and received rave reviews. Now, in 2024, Akshay Kumar’s Independence Day release is Khel Khel Mein.

Khel Khel Mein features an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Fardeen Khan, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, and Aditya Seal in leading roles. Directed by Mudassar Aziz and produced by a team including Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Vipul D Shah, and others, the comedy entertainer is backed by the popular production banner T-Series. As the release date approaches, fans eagerly anticipate yet another entertaining and memorable film from Akshay Kumar.
