Ayushmann Khurrana recently disclosed why his new movie Thamma is a “true blue Indian film” at the trailer launch for the movie in Mumbai on September 26. The horror-comedy, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and part of Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, boasts talent from across India with the nation’s wide cultural diversity.
Ayushmann also lauded the creative team of the film during the occasion, stating the cosmopolitan mix of the cast and crew. He said, “North aur South isliye kyunki Rashmika Telugu se hai, Kattappa sir Tamil se hai, Niren Bhatt Gujarat se hai, humare Arun co-writer hai woh Uttarakhand se hai, Suresh Mathew, co-writer hai woh Malayali hai.” In English, he had said that the heroine Rashmika Mandanna belongs to the Telugu cinema, Sathyaraj (also Kattappa) belongs to Tamil Nadu, writer Niren Bhatt belongs to Gujarat, co-writer Arun Falara belongs to Uttarakhand, and Suresh Mathew is Malayali from Kerala. Ayushmann has called the movie a “complete masterpiece” that is “rooted and cultured,” loyal to the spirit of Indian cinema.
The promo created a big buzz on social media, and many fans explained Rashmika Mandanna actually hails from Coorg, Karnataka, and not Telugu. Some said, “Rashmika Kannada se hai,” pointing to her Karnataka roots.
Thamma is the fifth instalment of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, after the blockbusters like Stree and Munjya. Releasing on October 21 on the eve of Diwali, the film features Ayushmann in the lead as Alok, who becomes a vampire after he gets bitten. Rashmika is Tadaka and Nawazuddin Siddiqui is the villain Yakshasan. Paresh Rawal, Faisal Malik, Geeta Aggarwal, and Rachit Singh are also featured in the movie. Varun Dhawan will make a special appearance as Bhaskar/Bhediya, while Malaika Arora and Nora Fatehi are expected to make a special song appearance.
Thamma is a unique blend of horror, comedy, and true Indian culture and is one of the most awaited releases of this festive season.
