The much awaited sequel to Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s Brahmastra: Part One Shiva is once again making headlines. The upcoming film, Brahmastra Part 2, is expected to take the story of the Astraverse forward and reportedly bring together some of Bollywood’s biggest stars. According to Bollywood Hungama, Alia Bhatt will not just make a brief appearance in the sequel. Her role is expected to be extended, with the actress reportedly featuring as a parallel lead alongside Deepika Padukone.
Alia played Isha in the first part, while Ranbir Kapoor played Shiva, a young man who discovers his connection with the powerful Astra universe. The first film introduced viewers to several important characters and also gave a glimpse of Deepika Padukone as Amrita. Deepika’s appearance was brief, but her character is believed to be important to the story that the franchise plans to explore in the upcoming films.
The latest report suggests that Brahmastra Part 2 could give Alia’s character much more to do. Instead of being limited to Ranbir’s character’s love interest, Isha could reportedly have a stronger presence in the story. At the same time, Deepika is expected to play an important role as Amrita. This means the film could have two prominent female characters with their own importance in the larger storyline.
The development is interesting because the Brahmastra franchise has always been planned as a connected story. Earlier reports had suggested that the characters would have stories running parallel to one another, allowing different parts of the Astraverse to connect.
Deepika’s character Amrita is especially important because she is connected to the mystery surrounding Dev and Shiva. Her appearance in the first film was one of the major hints about the direction of the sequel. Earlier, Alia herself had said that she felt Deepika would be a perfect choice for Amrita, praising her appearance and screen presence.
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor is expected to return to the franchise in his roles connected to Shiva and Dev. Director Ayan Mukerji is currently working on the writing and pre production of the sequel. A recent report also stated that the film is expected to begin production in April 2027 after Ranbir completes his other commitments.
If the latest casting details are accurate, Brahmastra Part 2 could offer a much bigger role for Alia while also expanding Deepika’s character. With Ranbir, Alia and Deepika potentially sharing major parts of the story, the sequel could become one of the most closely watched films in the franchise.
