De De Pyaar De 2: Familiar Chaos with Fresh Faces

De De Pyaar De 2 brings Ajay Devgn & Rakul Preet together in a witty rom-com filled with nostalgia and familiar chaos.

The trailer for De De Pyaar De 2 dropped today, bringing back Ajay Devgn as the charmingly awkward Ashish Mehra — now ready to win over his girlfriend Ayesha Khurana’s family. The sequel to the 2019 hit sees Devgn paired once again with Rakul Preet Singh, alongside R. Madhavan, who steps in as Ayesha’s father Dev. What follows is a comic clash between two men closer in age that neither would like to admit, setting up a series of awkward, witty, and competitive exchanges between their families.

Visually and tonally, DDPD2 stays true to the original — a mix of light romance and situational comedy. The humour feels understated, with one standout moment being Devgn’s signature half-exit from a moving car — a gag that lands purely on timing and restraint. Another noticeable moment comes when Meezaan Jafri rides across two jeeps — a clear nod to Devgn’s legendary debut stunt. It’s meant as a tribute, but the déjà vu is hard to ignore. The repetition of this shot, now a recycled trademark across multiple films, makes even the screenplay feel a bit typecast — playful, yes, but lacking novelty.

With Luv Ranjan backing (story) the project, expectations naturally run high. His brand of urbane, relationship-driven humour has a loyal fan base, and the hope is that the film packs more energy and surprise than what the teaser hints at.

Interestingly, De De Pyaar De 2 arrives close on the heels of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, another film in Ranjan’s familiar “rom-com with bite” space. Whether this one hits the same sweet spot remains to be seen. Fans will find out when the film releases on November 14, 2025 — Children’s Day — a fitting date for a story about family approval, second chances, and age-defying love.
