John Abraham and Bipasha Basu were the best couple in Bollywood and, indeed, their relationship dominated all the headlines for nearly a decade. They first met on the sets of Jism (2003), where the scorching chemistry on the big screen was soon transferred into a real-life romance. They were open and public and so made headlines as they did films like Aetbaar, Madhoshi, and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal. Fans believed that this couple was solid, with many thinking that they might soon get married.
However, the couple shocked everyone by making public their breakup after nearly ten years of living together. However, though John described the breakup as “amicable,” Bipasha said something else, especially hinting at the emotional hurt she was going through, pointing to the fact that, in all probability, the breakup might not have been as mutual as the other had made it look.
The reasons for their separation remained the subject of immense speculations. The biggest factor cited was said to be that they had different visions of their future. In an interview, John said that they have “grown out of the relationship.” Bipasha also admitted that Bipasha wanted to take it ahead, but John wasn’t ready for commitment.
Another reported incident that strained their relationship was when Bipasha was spotted at an event with footballer Cristiano Ronaldo in 2007. The pictures of them together, including a kissing picture, went viral. Though Bipasha did not comment on the incident publicly, it is said to have strained her relationship with John, who was hurt by the pictures. Initially, John wanted to call off things, but he decided to reconcile with her because of his love for her.

However, rumors of infidelity started doing the rounds, which claimed that John might have been involved with Priya Runchal, his now-wife, during his relationship with Bipasha. Bipasha herself hinted at being cheated on in interviews, stating that betrayal, especially infidelity, was not easy to forgive. She also said that while breakups could heal over time, betrayal left lasting scars.
John countered these allegations by touting his values of honesty and integrity, saying that cheating never was in his nature. When breakups can get people all emotional he came from a family culture that values credibility, and as such, dishonesty simply was not in his bloodstream.
Despite the dramatic end, John and Bipasha did go on to live a life that was happy with new partners. John married Priya Runchal in 2014, and Bipasha got married to actor Karan Singh Grover in 2016. They now have a daughter, Devi. Their break-up was definitely painful and highly publicized at the time, but both have moved on and gone ahead in their personal lives.
