Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has completed its 4th week at the Indian box office on a strong note. The epic drama collected Rs. 19.50 crore during its fourth week, recording a 32 per cent drop compared with the previous week. The decline is being seen as a healthy hold, especially with strong competition from Spider Man: Brand New Day.
The film’s total collection has now reached Rs. 208.25 crore gross in India. A major part of its business has come from IMAX cinemas, with more than 2/3 of the film’s total collections coming from the premium format.
With this performance, The Odyssey has become the highest grossing IMAX film in India. Its strong performance in premium screens has played an important role in helping the movie maintain its business even several weeks after release.
The film features Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson and several other actors. Despite Spider Man: Brand New Day currently leading the Indian box office, The Odyssey has managed to maintain a steady run.
The film is also expected to continue earning money in the coming weeks, although the daily collections are likely to remain at lower levels. It will face further competition from upcoming releases including Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947, but current trends suggest that the Nolan directorial still has some business left.
Based on its current performance, The Odyssey is expected to finish its theatrical run in India somewhere between Rs. 215 and 225 crore gross. If it reaches that range, the film will have recorded a strong result in the Indian market.
The movie has already achieved another major milestone. It has surpassed Oppenheimer to become the highest grossing Christopher Nolan film in India.
