Netflix has released the official trailer, key art and new images for Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again?, the third film in the popular Why Did I Get Married? franchise. The new movie brings several familiar characters back together and places them in a new setting as their families enter a different stage of life.
The story takes the group of longtime friends to Italy for a family wedding. Marcus and Angela’s daughter is preparing to get married, bringing the friends together after they have spent a long period apart. Their reunion gives them an opportunity to catch up and see how much their lives have changed since the previous film.
The children they once knew are now adults and are dealing with relationships of their own. As the younger generation faces questions about love, marriage and commitment, the parents are forced to think about their own choices and the lessons they have passed on to their children.
Tyler Perry returns to the franchise along with original cast members Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Jill Scott, Lamman Rucker, Sharon Leal and Richard T. Jones. The new film also features Taraji P. Henson, while Da’Vinchi and Armani Greer are among the actors playing the children of the established couples.
The film continues a franchise that Perry first created in 2007 with Why Did I Get Married?. He returned as writer and director for the original film and also directed the 2010 sequel, Why Did I Get Married Too?. Both earlier movies are currently available to stream on Netflix.
The third instalment shifts the focus toward the next generation while keeping the long standing friendships at the centre of the story. The wedding provides a reason for the characters to meet again, but their time together also brings old issues and new questions about relationships to the surface.
The film explores how marriage and family relationships can change over time, while also looking at how parents influence their children’s understanding of love.
Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? is scheduled to premiere globally on Netflix on September 9. The film will reunite the original characters while introducing a new generation of relationships and family challenges.
